Plants That Don't Need Water
2026 · beads, wire, ceramic & mixed media
I have killed a lot of houseplants.
These ones seemed harder to disappoint.
I started making beaded plants because I liked the absurdity of constructing something organic from materials that will never grow. Tiny leaves threaded onto wire. Strings of green beads spilling over ceramic pots. Plants painstakingly assembled one bead at a time, only to imitate something nature produces without consulting me at all.
There is something wonderfully unnecessary about them.
They don't need watering.
They don't need sunlight.
They will never outgrow their pots.
They just sit there pretending to be alive.
And perhaps that's reason enough to make them.
FIELD NOTE
Not everything needs to mean something.
Sometimes I just wanted to make a plant out of beads.
